The Lurk: UFC Anti Doping- Is it working?

index

The Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) recently committed to hosting Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) fights with athletes who are subject to enhanced drug testing.

In partnership with the United States Anti Doping Agency (USADA), the UFC implemented the first ever year round testing of it’s athletes for performance enhancing drugs (PED), similar to the stringent Olympic testing guidelines, in MMA.

Although the company had resisted implementing such testing in the past, citing the expense of the program, after media, fans, and prominent fighters pressured for reform, the promotion conceded.

On a recent Knuckle Up podcast, Eugene S Robinson, host, noted journalist, and Martial Arts practitioner, shared with viewers information submitted by a fan. Thankfully, Mr Robinson later posted the charts on his Twitter account.

The following chart illustrates the performance of notable gyms, that have multiple fighters competing in the UFC, pre and post PED testing in the UFC.

Thank you to Eugene S Robinson, and his viewer, for sharing the information he received.

The Lurk shares information overheard or witnessed at Mixed Martial Arts media events such as; press row, fight corners, promotion’s media days, weigh ins, meet and greets, fights attended live, and social media posts.

Keep in mind that this is two steps above blatant gossip and likely are taken out of context, as is the nature of skulking and lurking about.
